The new base that EasyJet will establish at the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport adds more than 125,000 seats to its flight program
In a strategic move set to redefine the skies over Alicante, easyJet, a prominent player in the aviation industry, has forged a robust alliance with the picturesque Spanish destination.
The partnership will culminate with the establishment of a new base at the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport, making easyJet’s fourth base in Spain. This development will have a significant immediate impact, resulting in an impressive addition of over 125,000 seats to the airline’s flight programme for the upcoming summer season in 2024.
The unveiling of this groundbreaking venture transpired at the prestigious World Travel Market fair in London. Garry Wilson, the CEO of easyJet Holidays, shared the exciting news alongside Carlos Mazón, the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, and Toni Pérez, President of the Alicante Provincial Council and Mayor of Benidorm.
The heart of this alliance lies in the announcement of nine new routes that will weave an intricate web connecting Alicante with various European destinations. The destinations include Southampton, Newcastle, Belfast City, Zurich, Prague, Lyon, Lille, Nantes, and Nice. These additions promise not only to elevate Alicante’s global connectivity but also to infuse the region with an influx of more than 125,000 eager passengers.
Carlos Mazón expressed his elation at easyJet’s unequivocal commitment to Alicante and the broader Valencian Community. This aviation pact is set to invigorate the local economy and tourism sector, opening doors to a new wave of opportunities for both residents and visitors alike. Meanwhile, Toni Pérez emphasized the significance of this development in realizing the province’s resolute vision to enhance air connectivity autonomously.
The timeline for the commencement of these new routes is strategically spread across the 2024 summer season, with the first flights scheduled to take off on March 31, 2024.
The inaugural routes linking Alicante with Southampton and Zurich will operate on a weekly basis, with Southampton flights every Sunday and Zurich flights on both Wednesday and Sunday.
Subsequent to this launch, April 1, 2024, will mark the initiation of connections with Nantes and Prague, followed by the Newcastle route on April 2. The frequencies for these routes vary, with Nantes flights on Mondays and Thursdays, Prague on Mondays and Fridays, and Newcastle on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The final crescendo of this aviation symphony begins on May 1-5, with the launch of routes from Alicante to Lille (Wednesdays and Saturdays), Belfast City (Thursdays and Sundays), Lyon (Tuesdays and Saturdays), and Nice (Mondays and Fridays). Each of these routes will operate on a twice-weekly basis.
The resonance of easyJet’s impact extends beyond Alicante, resonating across Spain with the simultaneous launch of 16 new routes. Malaga, Reus, Barcelona, and Madrid join the chorus, welcoming a diverse array of connections that solidify easyJet’s footprint in the Spanish skies.
