Largest Park In Ruzafa To Be Completed This Year

Five years after the initial tender, renovation work on the largest park in Ruzafa has finally begun…

Plaza Manuel Granero, Ruzafa’s largest green space, will be renovated this year. The City Council has announced the start of building work, which will cover nearly 8,000 square metres. The work is projected to take five months or so, so should be completed by the end of August.

It will take €464,000 to make this area comparable to the work done at Central Park just across the street. The original reconstruction began more than five years ago, when the works were first put out to tender. The plans drawn up at the time were later rejected, so the entire project had to be restarted from scratch. Of course, in the meantime, prices have risen as well, so changing and approving the budget caused further delays.

It is unclear what will be done here, but we do know that the only thing that will be left alone are the trees, which appear to be in excellent condition. Everything else will be different. The central fountain and petanque court will be demolished, and raised hedges will protect the new green areas. The design will also eliminate the park’s fragmented appearance, resulting in a large, compact area. A sustainable drainage system for the entire area is planned, with the goal of returning all rainwater to the subsoil.

The work will be carried out by the Compañía Levantina de Edificación y Obras Públicas, SA (Cleop) which is well-known for its work on the restoration of the Ayuntamiento de Valencia’s facade and restoring Torres de Quart.

When completed, the park on Manuel Granero Square will be a suitable match for the beautiful and well-loved Central Park on the other side of Calle Filipinas.
