The Valencia City Council has announced the programme for Christmas and New Year in Valencia – a traditional party held on the Plaza del Ayuntamiento will be cancelled due to health concerns, but Expojove, a popular children’s fair, will return.
Carlos Galiana, Councilor for Festive Culture, presented at a press conference the activities that the City Council will carry out during the Christmas and New Year in Valencia. The traditional New Year’s Eve party in Town Hall Square will not take place due to the current health situation, but on the bright side, Expojove, a children’s fair, will return this year after a year´s break.
The life-size nativity scene, Belen, which was traditionally set in the Plaza de la Reina, has been relocated this year to the pedestrian area of the Plaza de Sant Agust, where it will remain until January 7th, due to construction works that take place on the Plaza de la Reina.
From December 11 to January 4, the municipal Belen will be installed in the Crystal Hall (Sala de Cristal de Ayuntamiento). It will be available for viewing from 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. during the week, and from 10 a.m. on weekends. It will close at 3 p.m. on the 24th and 31st of December, and will be completely closed to the public on the 25th and 1st of January.
The traditional Christmas Carol (El Recital de Villancicos) will be held in various locations throughout the city. It will take place on the 16th and 17th of December at 6.30 p.m. in the Town Hall Square, on the 17th and 18th of December at 12 noon in various markets and squares throughout the city, and finally on the 27th in the Crystal Hall.
Missatgera Caterina, another festivity event, will be held at ten locations throughout the city and surrounding villages, every day from 10.30 to 13.30
The festive season this year will be especially appealing to the young ones. After being cancelled last year, Expojove returns from December 26 to January 4 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will also be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on December 31, 2022, and from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on January 1, 2022; and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on January 2 and 4, 2022. It is a festive Season fair for children, held at Feria Valencia.
The traditional Cavalcade of Kings (Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos) will take place on January 5th, following the usual route. According to the organisers, this year’s parade “will be shorter than previous editions because the number of participants has been reduced, so people will spend less time on the street.” Furthermore, the chairs have been removed.
